Painting

A paint brush loaded with color is one of life's great pleasures for me.

My main subject matter is abstract landscapes; not of a specific place but of "universal shapes" and horizon lines. The landscapes have evolved into a dialogue, in paint, into various weather and seasonal faces influenced by water.

I paint with oil on canvas, primarily concerning myself with form and color. Since exploring the abstract qualities of water in the landscape genre, however, linear elements are very important and expressive element within the painting.

Drawing and painting, though traditional means of visual expression, and perhaps because of it, affords me a stable place to go deeper into whatever creative needs and impulses I have buried inside to be expressed.

Collage

Collage, has at times been the focus of my output, other times as an adjunct to my drawings. In that context I've used torn up pieces of abandoned drawings, then include them in new compositions.

Collage, as a means of expression afford the greatest freedom for me to explore symbolic and aesthetic territories. For this reason, I've collected all kinds of paper, photographs, string, wire, dried rose petals, straw, in addition to the torn pieces of unresolved drawings. Chalks, pencils, pen and ink are added to change and meld the other materials together. The composition of a collage is based on the materials I use. Collage is also very forgiving;it can be altered by just removing or repositioning the piece that is not working. It's a lot of fun to see how different kinds of materials "interact' with one another.
