IMAGINATION AND THE NATURE OF NATURE

One of the of the most wondrous aspects about being an artist is being able to use my imagination to “reinvent the wheel”; my wheel of any color, a spoke of any material, color, and  any fanciful shape I choose. It doesn’t even have to roll.

Imagination and water, the source of all beginnings, has been the inspiration for much of my current work. I go into the studio with an attitude that is part going to work and part traveling to new and exciting places experiencing all the highs and lows of “traveling” and deeply aware that this is my job and my place in this life.

In 2002 I cleared a space in my life, rented a large studio and got down to work after many years of trying to keep my art life alive despite the many personal and financial pulls for my attention in the rest of my life. The consistent thread (as I look back) was the exploration of the nature of nature; its visible and hidden forces that shape and reshape our Earth…and my unconscious and creative responses to them.

My awe and respect for “the mystery of it all” has increased with each passing year.  This awareness has inspired a creative outpouring using pen and ink, rainwater, tea washes, salt, oil and other mediums in order to express the many faces and rhythms of nature and most importantly, water.

In 2004 Maash Pascal became my artist’s signature after several years of creating work as Marsha Rich.  I try to get out of my own way, accept dry spells when they happen, listen to music a must while I work, and use whatever skills and creative energy I have that day to make visible my eternal questions to the universe.
